Finite element field calculation, 2D and 3D, for determination of electrical potentials caused by electric current in geological and marine layers in connection with the establishment of new HVDC lines with earth return. The purpose was to safeguard marine oil and gas pipelines against increased corrosion. The field calculations were done by means of the 2D and 3D finite element program Cosmos/M from SRAC, Structural Research and Analysis Corporation, USA.
